Badge behavior
Each badge has its own behavior due to the timeline of different stages. (Timeline can vary due to different product requirements)
Technology preview badge
The technology preview badge will be removed when the release stage is fully GA. Otherwise will be remained until the feature is fully GA.
Deprecated badge
benefit of using deprecated badge:
- Giving users enough time to get familiar with the new version feature.
- Adding clarity between the new and old versions of a feature.
The Deprecated badge will not be removed when the feature is in the Technology preview which means not fully GA.
ACS is using additional number versioning to differentiate the feature stage while keeping the same name for all versions of a feature. Using a greater number to indicate the newer version of the release.
Example:
Network Graph (1.0) Technology preview
Network Graph (2.0) Deprecated
For an updated version with technology preview: The deprecated badge and technology preview badge both will be removed when the feature is fully GA. (see use case 1 below)
While ACS has the new version of the network graph (2.0) in the technology preview, the deprecated version of the network graph (1.0) is still up and running. After the GA for the technology preview version is ready, ACS removed both the deprecated and technology preview version of the network graph along with removing the version naming (1.0 / 2.0) Leaving one and only the newest version Network graph feature in the navigation menu.
(***We are not recommending the version naming design to use as a design pattern but this is how ACS is done***)
During Tech preview:
Ready for GA:
New badge
Any feature that is new and is not a version update of a feature that is already existing in the navigation menu.
The new badge will be removed right after users enter the page of that feature.
Informational guidance alert
Using informational guidance alert when the feature is in the technology preview or deprecated stage.
In using the informational guidance alert:
- Emphasizing the stage of that page that users landed on.
- Directing users to the older version which has all the functionalities available.
See the component in PatternFly
ACS is using inline-alert in the use case below.
